Do you think you could be an advocate?
Why not contact Ann for a chat.

The Older People's Advocacy are extremely grateful to The Balance Charitable Foundation
    and the
Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales
for their support of our work.

A little about Older People's Advocacy.

The Older People's Advocacy Project or OPAP for short is an integral part of Peaks & Dales Advocacy (PADA). Like all the other areas covered by PADA, our team consisting of volunteer advocates who are supported by advocate co-ordinators provides the service.

OPAP supports fully all the principles of advocacy and works to empower its partners to ensure their views are known and respected and fully considered.

Advocates spend time with older people in their own homes, in the community, in residential and nursing homes as well as specialist hospitals .

The OPAP team work closely together sharing experiences and skills and ensuring good practice is developed.
By doing this we have built up individual and team skills to ensure that our partners receive a first class service.

We offer our service free to residents of the High Peak and North Derbyshire Dales aged over 55 years.

    Who might need an Advocate?

Well anyone really but especially vulnerable or isolated older people who are having difficulty getting his or her views listened to.

Perhaps these people are facing difficult choices or changes in their lives and would like help finding out about their rights and opportunities.

If you, or someone you know, might benefit from having an advocate, then why not contact us to find out more.

    How can we help you:

    · Finding out with you what your choices are when considering your long term care needs and making sure your wishes are taken into account.

    · Helping you to get the advice and information you need, in any area of your life.

    · Providing support if you need it to attend a tribunal, make an appeal or a complaint or confront legal problems.

    · Helping you to challenge discrimination and claim your rights.

    Our advocates

Will take the time to get to know you. In this way we will be in a good position to help you express your views and if necessary we will speak on your behalf.

Will respect your wishes and support your interests.

Are independent of any service you receive.

Are there for you and no one else.

It's your right to have a say in your life and perhaps we can help you to do it.
