INFORMATION FOR POTENTIAL ADVOCATES

If you think you might be interested in joining us as a volunteer advocate or in some other voluntary role please contact us for an informal talk or download the application form from this link .

We are a very committed and happy team.

The role we perform is extremely varied but would normally include the things below.

To bring about an improvement in the quality of life for our advocacy partner by:

Being a 'friend with a purpose'

Able to offer an hour a week

Taking time to get to know and understand the wishes of the person

Maintaining regular contact with the partner, by agreement, for as long as both people wish

Helping the partner to obtain information about local services to enable the partner to make informed choices

Respecting and supporting the interests of the partner as if they were the advocate's own

Working with the partner to take appropriate action to ensure the partner's needs and rights are listened to, acknowledged and where possible, met

Taking part in initial preparation and subsequent training relevant to their partnership

Maintaining contact with the Co-ordinator or Manager of the Advocacy Project

Attending regular advocates meetings

Please note this list is not exhaustive as each partner is different

We welcome people of all ages and from all backgrounds.

All training given is practical and designed to ensure our advocates have all the skills they need to work effectively for our "partners"
